
The XVII Spanish Congress of Political Science and Administration, held from July 22th to 24th in Burgos, provided a significant platform to present the advancements of the European Horizon project, BlueGreen Governance. The event titled “Democracy in the Face of Multilevel Challenges”, was sponsored by the Spanish Association of Political Science and Administration (AECPA) and had 93 working groups totaling more than 700 presentations and 600 registered people. The institutional representation was carried out by the president of las Cortes de Castilla y León, the president of the Provincial Council of Burgos and the mayor of Burgos.
The congress brought together a diverse group of experts and academics who addressed different subjects such as the elections in the United States, coloniality, the ecosocial crisis, the challenges related to territory or feminism. The presentation titled “Ecological Transition and Coastal Protection: Institutional Innovations and Participatory Governance“, presented by Irene Luján, introduced the BlueGreen Governance to the participants, emphasizing how the integration of scientific knowledge, citizen science, new digital solutions and various institutional layers can facilitate the protection of our coasts. The event served as a vital platform to explain the goals of the BGG project showcasing the potential of innovative governance models and participatory approaches to address the challenges of ecological transition and coastal protection.
Furthermore, the presentation “Blue Green Governance: Environmental Public Policies for the Ecological Transition“, held by Bernabé Aldeguer and Joan Enguer, underscored the commitment to researching and developing public policies that promote a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future giving special importance to cross-sectoral collaboration, bringing together stakeholders from various fields to develop comprehensive strategies for coastal protection.
