The BGG Dashboard brings together two interconnected components: PlanWise4Blue Europe (an environmental dashboard) and ePLANETe (a deliberation e-tool). This integration allows for a blend of scientifically informed strategic foresight with societal perspectives and values.

The tool is designed to equip land-sea planning stakeholders with comprehensive geospatial and societal data to support decision-making. Overall, it will enable policymakers to guide decisions more effectively for improved management of the land-sea interface.

The BGG Dashboard Concept

The BGG Dashboard integrates environmental data from the real world through PlanWise4Blue and governance processes through ePLANETe to support BlueGreen Governance piloting activities.

PlanWise4Blue Europe

The PlanWise4Blue platform integrates multiple natural data sources, creating a digital twin of the natural environment that enables real-world visualization of climate change trends and user-defined, scenario-based cumulative impact assessments.

PlanWise4Blue compiles all relevant datasets needed to characterize coastal ecosystems through abiotic and biotic indicators, using established cause-effect relationships to predict cumulative impacts of human activities under current or potential future scenarios. This tool also allows exploration of interconnected natural phenomena, such as the biodiversity-climate-water nexus.

By integrating citizen perspectives with scientific evidence, ePLANETe ensures that decisions reflect not only scientific data but also the concerns and aspirations of affected communities.

How Does the Dashboard Work?

The dashboard workflow involves PlanWise4Blue providing input for ePLANETe. The PlanWise4Blue tool delivers several key outputs to support a detailed understanding of environmental conditions and the potential impacts of human activities on marine ecosystems.

By combining data visualization tools, such as maps, charts, and graphs, the dashboard effectively conveys both baseline information and scenario-based projections, allowing users to explore various outcomes and implications for marine management.

Who is the BGG Dashboard for?

Main Target Audience

Policy Makers and Government Agencies

The BGG Dashboard provides these users with comprehensive geospatial, environmental, and societal data, facilitating informed decision-making and the development of sustainable policies for coastal and marine areas.

Environmental Planners and Managers

Professionals responsible for environmental conservation and resource management can utilize the BGG Dashboard to assess the cumulative impacts of human activities, aiding in the creation of strategies that balance economic development with environmental preservation.

Researchers and Academics

The tool offers a rich database for scientific analysis, enabling studies on the effects of various scenarios on marine ecosystems and contributing to the broader body of environmental research.

Secondary Target Audience

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)

Environmental advocacy groups can leverage the BGG Dashboard to support their initiatives, campaigns, and policy recommendations by accessing reliable data and impact assessments.

Industry Stakeholders

Sectors such as fisheries, aquaculture, wind energy, and maritime transport can use the tool to understand the environmental implications of their operations and explore sustainable practices.

Local Communities and General Public

By providing accessible information, the dashboard empowers communities to engage in discussions about coastal development and environmental conservation, fostering transparency and collaborative governance. This will be facilitated by the user-friendly design of the BGG Dashboard, along with comprehensive informational materials to guide the general public on its use.
